In this cooperative society a sustainable financing model has been developed that provides creative freedom while preserving capital interests of its members. In the Genossenschaft für Urbane Kreativität (GuK – Cooperative for urban creativity), entrepreneurs, creators and supporters have joined together to facilitate the sustainable development of the urban quarter “Holzmarkt”.
The Holzmarkt cooperative was founded with the goal to revitalize on of the last vacant fallow lands on the river Spree culturally, urban and not least economically. It provides citizens and investors the opportunity to participate with one vote, and at the same time secures the artistic freedom of the project. Together with the Genossenschaft für urbane Kreativität (Cooperative for urban creativity) a sustainable financing model has been developed.
Under the name ECKWERK, on more than 30,000 square meters, a unique technology center comes into being in the Holzmarkt quarter on the Spree. Business incubator, student accommodation and professional farming on the roof are merged in a concept. The ECKWERK sees itself responsible to society. Unlimited growth, throwaway mentality and quick profits at the expense of the community as a prerequisite for economic success have as little space as aggressively dealing with patent and copyright laws.
The Schwärmkraft Berlin GmbH developed a neighborly and largely CO2-neutral energy supply concept beyond fossil and nuclear fuels and converts it in the timber market–Quartier. Schwärmkraft Berlin was founded by the Cooperative for urban creativity, the wood market 25 EC and the Eckwerk Development GmbH.
Since the foundation of the Genossenschaft für Urbane Kreativität (GuK – Cooperative for urban creativity) in 2012 the number of our members increased to more than 100. There are members in Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, USA – we are represented all over the world! Anyone could become a member if he supports the idea of the project and its principles. In the GuK entrepreneurs, creators and supporters have joined together to facilitate the sustainable development of the urban quarter “Holzmarkt”.
Become a member of the cooperative society. In the Genossenschaft für urbane Kreativität (GuK – Cooperative for urban creativity) basically anyone can become a shareholder who wants to invest money in the sustainable development of the cultural center Holzmarkt.
